The FirstRow Sport App provides access to sports streamed live from around the world.

The FirstRow Sport App is a desktop app for Windows that provides access to the FirstRow Sports website. It’s an alternative to just using the site. It can eliminate the need to download video codecs and whatnot and can make the streaming experience a safer one in theory.

The app gives you access to sporting events from around the world, and all of them are live. It’s not hyperbole to claim that the site has almost every sporting event televised. That’s due in large part to the crowdsourced nature, which will discuss more in a moment.

There are many sports categories to choose from, including football, baseball, hockey, basketball and soccer. When it comes to combat sports, such as boxing and the UFC, you can even access PPV events. If you’re an American who loves cricket or world football, you get arguably unparalleled access.

The program loads fast and is quite stable. It features categories, subcategories, calendars and time schedules that make it easiy to navigate its massive selection of streams. When you choose a match, you have multiple streams to choose from — often a half dozen or more. This lets you find the stream that provides the best performance for you.

There aren’t many downsides to the program itself, but there are some negative factors about the service itself to consider. For starters, FirstRow sports isn’t a provider but an intermediary that connects streamers with an audience. Streamers often don’t have a right to stream what they stream. In fact, they’re often slingboxing broadcasts from within their own homes. That means the app exists in a legal murkiness that many users simply won’t want to participate in.

Even for those OK with that aspect, there are some downsides, such as the limited bandwidth with which these streams are provided. Stream quality is often well below 720p, and if a stream is popular, then it can be susceptible to freezing up and other issues.

The other problem is ads. These streamers do what they do to make money off ads served to you. You might think the app would curb some of these problems that persist on the site, but it doesn’t. In fact, it may even be worse. You can click away most awards after a short while, but having to do this over the course of an entire match is a real hassle.

Pros

  • Stream sporting events from around the world
  • Numerous streams to choose from
  • Program loads fast and runs well

Cons

  • Stream quality is often low
  • Intrusive ads can be a problem
